Does a clinic need a website if it has a Google Business Profile?

The honest answer is that a Business Profile matters more than most clinic websites. That is an argument about what your website should be, not whether you need one.

If you have to choose one, choose the Google Business Profile. It is free, it appears above everything else for "dentist near me", and it carries the three things a patient wants first: are you open, where are you, what is the number.

But most patients do not stop there. They tap through, look for two or three minutes, and decide. What they find is your website, and a bad one actively costs you the patient the profile just won.

The three things a clinic site must do

  1. Load fast on a phone on mobile data. Most of your visitors are on a phone, on the street, with one hand.
  2. Let them book, or call, without hunting. If the number is not tappable in the first screenful, the site is decorative.
  3. Name the doctors, with qualifications. Healthcare is a trust purchase and the doctor is the product.

Everything else — the hero image, the mission statement, the stock photo of a smiling family — is optional at best.

The failure mode to avoid

This is the real argument for a site generated from your practice details rather than hand-built: when you change your timings in the software, the website changes. There is no second place to update, so there is nothing to forget.

What about social media instead?

Instagram is good at reach and bad at being found by someone who needs a dentist this afternoon. It also is not yours — the account, the reach and the rules belong to someone else. Use it, but not as the place your clinic exists.

A reasonable order for a practice starting out

  • Claim and complete the Google Business Profile. Real photos, correct hours, reply to every review.
  • Get a simple site up with doctors, treatments, timings, location and a way to book.
  • Link the profile to the site, and make sure the phone number matches exactly.
  • Only then think about content, ads or anything more ambitious.

GullyMed's free tier exists for step two. The site generates from what you enter once, so it cannot drift from reality.
